Pinterest Adventure #2

I've really been slacking in the Pinterest department lately. Not much pinning and, even sadder, not much doing either. My house is...chaos. Not crazy, busy chaos, but definitely messy chaos. I am completely unorganized right now, even more so than usual. I'm off my game and I can't seem to figure out why.

Anyways, I was really wanting an easy pin this week, plus I was hungry.
So, I settled on this recipe for sweet potato french fries from gimmesomeoven.com. I've never tried one of their recipes before, but this one seemed pretty easy and looked delicious.

Check out their delicious-lookingness {{here}}or pin it

Now, I've never had sweet potatoes before, but they're supposed to be really good for you and since I'm  on a health food thing right now, I figured I should give it a whirl.
I bought some sweet potatoes from Aldi the other day, but didn't have any idea what...to do with them.

But! Alas, I found a recipe and here's what I did with them.

I cut them up, as directed. I seriously felt like a real chef or something. It was like cutting through a root! From a plant or something. Very cool.

They actually kind of looked like the original recipe fries. Like, I kinda actually cut them right. So far so good!

This was an idea of my own invention. It was actually pretty genius. The recipe called for the oil coated fries to be tossed with the various spices. BUT, did the recipe suggest that you throw your oil coated fries in a tupperware of spices, cover, and shake???
I didn't think so.

Here's the fries, all oiled up and spiced. Looks pretty good, right?
Oven set for 450 degrees, bake for 20-25 minutes, fries should be nice and crispy.
While they were baking, my sister asked if I liked "that smell that's goin' on right now." She claimed that it smelled like B.O.
I can assure you, I smelled no such thing.

And here's the finished product!!!

Just kidding.

Here's mine.
Ya like 'em crunchy, do ya?

I have NO IDEA what happened!! They went in at 450 degrees, they looked right, they smelled right...they ain't right. They baked for about 15 minutes. I couldn't believe how fast they cooked. I checked after about 10, and they weren't done. Who knew another 5 could do so much damage! It was especially disappointing because the 3 that I was able to gnaw on were actually pretty tasty. The spices were different than I usually use, so trying something new was a bonus. I'd like to see how the oil and spices work for regular potatoes.

Not sure if I'll be trying this one again. I'll probably give it another go.
I will tell you this much, if I end up with another charred batch, I'm swearing off sweet potatoes for life!
